Mass Spectrometry Facility

Chemical characterization of small organic molecules, biological macromolecules (peptides, proteins, nucleic acids and synthetic polymers), proteomics, metabolomics.

Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange combined with mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) identifies changes in protein conformation allowing to obtain information about the effect of amino acid mutations, post-translational modifications and polymer conjugation on protein structure and dynamics, as well as for studying antigen-antibody epitope mapping, protein-protein and drug-receptor interactions.

Applications

  • Chemical characterization of small organic molecules;
  • Analysis of biological macromolecules:
    • proteins (intact mass analysis, peptide fingerprinting, HDX-MS, antibodies and antibodies-drug conjugates);
    • peptides;
    • nucleic acids;
    • synthetic polymers.
  • Proteomics;
  • Metabolomics.

Type of Analysis

Different type of analyses are available (please refer to <<link>> for more details):

  • Fast Flow Injection (FFI);
  • Direct Infusion;
  • LC/MS analysis;
  • HDX-MS analysis.

General Info

Instructions are provided to users on the methodologies and the applications. The maintenance and operation of the equipment and the set-up of methods of analysis are coordinated by the staff in charge, as well as the supervision of the planning, booking and reporting of devices.

Booking Information

Ask the staff for booking. Time slots of 15 or 30 min are available, depending on the type of analysis. Please fill in the Analysis Request Form before delivering the samples.

The analyses are carried out by the staff, but can also be directly performed by selected users after a specific training (Certificate of attendance) carried out by a staff member or another expert user.

The use of the instrument, supported by the staff, is also allowed to some “super-users”, experts in some specific fields, who can make their contribution to scientific research in terms of innovation in the development of new methods and new applications.

Two workstations equipped with data processing software are available to users of the Mass Spectrometry Facility (GeoTec 00190 -1 061).
